LinkedIn Algorithm InSights 2026

Distilled from the 7th-edition report by Richard van der Blom / Just Connecting HUB (with AuthoredUp). All numbers are the report's own claims, with page references; the authors have no internal LinkedIn access — it's external statistical inference.

217 pages 1.3M+ posts analyzed 50k+ profiles · 30k+ pages Core window Sept 2025 – Feb 2026

What to act on first

Outreach: comment on a prospect's post before you DM — 3.2× higher reply rate, and the comment-first-then-connect sequence hits 95% acceptance p.107. Templated/automated sequences cost −50% acceptance, −75% conversion; send manually, and keep links and attachments out of a first message (links: −20% acceptance, −55% conversion) p.193.

The most under-used lever in the report: audio DMs to existing connections get a 71% response rate (text: 34%) and only 2% of messages use them p.192.

Posting: 2–4 posts/week, document/carousel posts first (1.39× reach, only 4.9% of posts use them), text posts at 1,400–1,800 characters, zero hashtags, links in the post body if needed (−18.8%) — the link-in-first-comment trick is dead (up to −80%) pp.50–58, 86, 97–98.

AI copy: fully AI-written posts lose 30–40% reach; using AI for research and structure while a human writes the final voice gains +32% reach / +41% comments p.174.

Free pipeline habit: after each post, send 5 personalized connection requests/day to 2nd/3rd-degree engagers, referencing the post — "the warmest outreach opportunity almost nobody captures" p.206.

72% → 31%
Share of feed from 1st-degree connections, 2024 → 2026. The Interest Graph replaced the Relationship Graph. pp.6, 16
−70%
Reach vs the Feb 2024 peak — but stabilized by Mar 2026 (−3% vs Sept '25). pp.9–13
+18–21%
Engagement growth since Sept 2025 — "the comeback nobody expected." p.12
50 / 40 / 10
Initial distribution now: topic-match / followers / direct connections (was 70/25/5 by connections in 2025). p.94
1.39×
Document-post reach — the top format on both reach and engagement, used by only 4.88% of posts. pp.50–53
0.86×
Native video reach — below 1.0× for the first time in 3 years (−22.5% YoY). p.59

Engagement on employee-shared content vs the same content on the company page. p.143

2026 reversals — advice that flipped

Use 3–5 hashtags Zero hashtags now outperforms by 5–10%. Never exceed 10 (−30–50% visibility). pp.86–87
Put the link in the first comment Comment-links are now suppressed up to −80% and convert 3.4× worse. Body link costs only −18.8%. pp.97–98
Company Pages should post on weekends (+30–50%) Weekdays now beat weekends by 24.4% for Pages. (Top personal creators: the opposite — weekends +21.2%.) pp.91, 134–136
The first 60 minutes decide a post The golden engagement window extended to ~4 hours. p.101
Text is dead Text-only reach recovered above 1.0× (1.07×) for the first time in 3 years; optimal length rose to 1,400–1,800 chars. p.57
"Comment X and I'll DM you Y" Actively punished since Feb 2026: −80% reach, account restrictions within days. p.189
Informal creator sponsorships work fine Unofficial sponsored posts: −70–80% reach since mid-2025 — LinkedIn is forcing paid partnerships through Thought Leader Ads. pp.170–171

The 20 myths (chapter 6, condensed)

  1. Daily posting is best — false (−45% reach). p.195
  2. Good content reaches your whole network — false (initial reach 2–6%).
  3. More hashtags = more views — false.
  4. The algorithm hates all external links — half true (−18.8%, manageable).
  5. The algorithm is random — false; it rewards consistency.
  6. Careful engagement pods still work — false (97% detection accuracy).
  7. Viral = revenue — false.
  8. Only big creators get reach — false (follower count decoupled from reach).
  9. Text is dead, video wins — false (the 2026 data says the opposite).
  10. Long posts always win — it's complicated (1,400–1,800 chars optimal, but 34% of top posts are now under 600).
  11. Comments are the only engagement that matters — false (saves are worth 14–16× a like).
  12. Company Pages are dead — overstated, but directionally real.
  13. Perfect posting time is the secret — overstated.
  14. First 60 minutes make or break — outdated (window is now ~4 hours).
  15. More carousels = better — false (1–2/week max).
  16. Automation is the only way to scale — false; it's detected and damages the account.
  17. More followers = more authority — dangerously overstated.
  18. Reposts alone are enough — false (0.29× reach).
  19. DMs are pushy — false (10.3% avg response vs 3.1% cold email).
  20. "The algorithm is why I'm not growing" — the most comfortable myth on the list. p.205

Method & caveats

7th edition; dataset of 1.3M+ posts (Sept 2025 – Feb 2026 core window, comparisons back to Feb 2024), 50,000+ profiles, 30,000+ company pages, 60+ countries. Sourced via AuthoredUp and Just Connecting client/community data — no scraping. The authors state explicitly they have no internal access to LinkedIn's algorithm; everything here is external statistical inference, and specific multipliers should be read as directional, not gospel. pp.212–215
